Peer pressure is something both high school and middle school student’s experience. There are many different types of peer pressure. One I would like to address today is Name-Brand Obsessions. Today many teenagers seem to find it necessary to wear certain name-brands to fit in. From searching online I discovered an article on http://www.bazeley.net/mosaic/news/archives/namebrand_obsession_peer_pressure_fuels_teens_taste_for_pricey_clothing.html . The article informs the general public on how teenagers these days have the need to wear expensive clothes. The author uses examples and quotes from teenagers. He also uses certain words/phrases that help readers understand what point he is trying to get across. For example the author interviews a 13 year old 7th grader at Woodrow Middle School in Tampa , FL. The seventh grader stated, “…I only wear Hollister, Abercrombie, UGG’s and PINK because everyone else does, if I don’t it’s like I won’t be in the Loop ”. The authors view point is he does not think that parents should encourage their children to ignore what other students think instead of buying tem these expensive clothes only to impress peers and avoid bullying.
This source is reliable because the layout on the website is very organized, it also has links relating to the subject. There are not many advertisements and the text contains quotes from different people that they have interviewed. Another thing that helped me decide whether it’s reliable or not is that at the end of the page there was Terms and Conditions information and Copyright.
